Technical engineer

A broad, practical engineer role spanning workshop preparation, customer installation, diagnosis, support and documentation.

The role

This person will become Phone Guys’ first dedicated engineer alongside the founder. We need intelligence, curiosity and broad technical foundations more than a collection of narrow certificates: someone who can understand an unfamiliar system, isolate the real fault and leave the customer with a dependable result.

What you will own

Prepare and configure systems in the workshop before deployment.
Install and commission phones, networks, Wi-Fi and related business technology on customer sites.
Diagnose unfamiliar faults methodically across devices, cabling, networks, services and cloud platforms.
Support customers clearly and document systems so knowledge remains usable by the wider team.
Work directly with the founder to establish sound engineering standards and repeatable technical processes.

What we need

Strong technical reasoning and the ability to explain how you isolate a fault.
Broad foundations across networks, business phones, Wi-Fi and business IT.
Professional communication with customers and colleagues.
The judgement to research unfamiliar technology without guessing at the customer’s expense.

Useful advantages

Hands-on experience with 3CX, TP-Link Omada, Microsoft 365, Yealink or managed networks.
Experience in workshop configuration, site installation, structured cabling or technical documentation.
A record of owning technical problems through to a verified resolution.
